The Fertility Symbol

Dear Luna,

This day last year, mum and dad found out that I was pregnant with you. So January 23 is a very significant day for us. And to commemorate this date, mum had a tattoo (you and dad actually accompanied me)! It’s called lingling-o, a fertility symbol from the Cordillera region of the Philippines.

Lingling-O

This region is very close to mum’s heart because my wandering soul was awakened when I first went to Sagada with my old college outdoor org almost 10 years ago. So the lingling-o doesn’t only represent my ability to conceive (which for me is one of the many powers of a woman) but also a place that transformed me.

Looks like you already had a feeling that something intense will happen that day.

We did a quick stroll in Burnham Park (one of our fave activities in Baguio City) before we headed to the tattoo shop.

If someday you would want to have a tattoo done too, think of something that will depict your character and beliefs.

Tattooing is an ancient form of art. Not just for decoration, but for indicating a person’s standing in the society. I think highly of it. I hope someday you won’t get one out of a dare or drunkenness.

And please, please… I beg of you don’t mark yourself with a boyfriend’s name.

Until then baby doll. Mum needs to rest. I’m sorry if I won’t be able to carry you around in the next few days.

Love,
Rakenrol Mumma
